March Tours! Thank you!

To all of my incredible students who hosted one of SFLA’s spring tours. THANK YOU! Each of you did amazing and I was so proud to see all of the conversations we had on campus. Tours are a great way to promote your group, educate the student body, and practice great dialogue. For those of you that didn’t get to host the Spring Tour – we will try to schedule you for the fall!

Here are the schools they hosted the Spring Tours in the Midwest Region:

Women Betrayed: Drake University, University of Iowa, Iowa State, and University of Northern Iowa

We Don’t Need Planned Parenthood: Rockhurst University, Truman State University, Lindenwood University, University of Missouri, University of Missouri – St. Louis, Southern Illinois University, Columbia College

So impressed with the groups that had some push back but remained respectful and held their head held high. We are the pro-life generation! Stay strong and finish off this semester on a good note.

Dear Stop Patriarchy

By: Reagan Nielsen, Midwest Regional Coordinator, and Anna Held, Great Lakes Regional Coordinator

Every January 22 hundreds of thousands of people march on Washington in protest of the Supreme Court’s decision to legalize abortion in the United States. While these pro-lifers gathered by the hundreds of thousands for peaceful prayer, structured speeches, respectful laments for lost lives and positive accounts of pro-life victories, there was a very different phenomenon happening at the top of Capitol Hill.

For some reason, Stop Patriarchy thought it would be a good idea to organize a measly counter-protest in response to the enormous March for Life. Students for Life of America made it our personal mission to crash their party and instead welcome the oncoming marchers with pro-life chants and signs.

Because we weren’t given the opportunity to chat over tea with these friendly folks, we decided to write them a letter.

Dear Stop Patriarchy,

Hope you had a safe drive back. Many of our students are currently stuck on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and the National Guard had to bring them water. You could call us courageous. Anyway, we just had a couple questions about your protest that we were hoping you could clear up…

  • Why are you wearing white when you are bleeding? That’s like rule #1, dark pants on those dark days.
  • How come the men are also bleeding? Is this the same form of biology that tells you that fetuses aren’t babies? guy ovaries
  • Where are the rosaries? And where are YOUR ovaries?
  • How come men can’t March for Life but they can wear chains for “women’s enslavement?”
  • How come you were screaming at us for hating young women…when we are young women? #awk
  • When you fell to the ground to lay down, were you getting tired of standing or were you getting nauseous from all the blood? Either way, thanks for giving up the front row spots for us to stand.
  • Did you actually think the start of the March for Life was the small group of 200 people and that that the snow scared the other hundreds of thousands of people away? We weren’t really sure what you were trying to do when you ran out to stop them…
  • What does it feel like to scream in young women’s faces who are kneeling to pray in front of you?
  • We must misunderstand the word “tolerance”, because shoving people and screaming derogatory slurs doesn’t seem very tolerant to us.stop patriarchy
  • When did women become full human beings? Conception? Birth? Puberty?

When you’re ready to chat over tea (and by chat we mean indoor voices in clean clothes) let us know, we’re ready.

Reagan and Anna

P.S. Because you seem to be ill-informed…we are not the pro-choice generation. WE ARE THE PRO-LIFE GENERATION.

The Truth About the Pill

Students often ask me how the birth control pill is an abortifacient, I thought I would share my response with you as well. If I’m pro-life, and believe that life begins at conception, it would be hypocritical to support the birth control pill and the morning after pill because conception occurs before implantation.  Once the egg and sperm have fused, resulting in a zygote, an entirely new human being with DNA separate from the mother, and makes its way to the uterus and attempts to implant into the lining. The birth control pill and morning after pill prevent implantation by hardening the uterine wall (it would be like throwing a tennis ball at the wall, it’s just going to bounce right back), therefore the zygote can’t implant and dies, being flushed out of the body through the next menstrual cycle.   The birth control pill and morning after pill are abortifacients – which means they can cause an abortion.  We know women aren’t taking these pills to end a pregnancy but sometimes that can occur.

Halfway through Fall 2015!

Wow!  I can’t believe that we have reached the halfway point in the semester already.  This semester has been so busy!  I’m so proud of everything our students are accomplishing so far. They are so inspiring and every day I am more and more confident that we WILL end abortion in our lifetime.

Within the past month and a half, I have already closed six groups!  Students are on fire for LIFE.  The students’ passion to end abortion just gets stronger and stronger.  It is so fun to see all the great ideas they have come up with just within the past month and a half.  So many of my groups participated in their school’s activity fair, Women Betrayed Student Action Day, pro-life chalking, and National Pro-Life Cupcake Day.

I have been traveling a lot already this semester.  I have been to Chicago twice, Galesburg, South Dakota, Columbia, and multiple schools in the St. Louis area.  I’ve visited over 30 schools and traveled more than 4,500 miles!

This Fall I’ve also been speaking at multiple parishes in my region.  Getting to share SFLA’s mission and encouraging parishioners to take a firm stance for life has been so rewarding.  It has been so fun getting to know so many local pro-life supporters.  They are so appreciative of the work I do and want to get more involved in the movement.  It just really has given me so much motivation to keep on working hard on the front lines.

St. Louis Leadership Summit
We had about 35 students present at our Leadership Summit from 14 different schools.  It was so inspiring to see some of our students give up their Saturday to learn more about making their group effective on campus.  There was even a group of girls that came and walked out of the conference ready to start a brand new group at their public school!

We had such a great lineup of speakers and our students LOVED them:
Jay Watts – Life Training Institute
Travis Barham – Alliance Defending Freedom
Andrea Artz – Birth Mother and past Fontbonne SFL President
Ramona Davis – Pregnancy Help Center of South County Director
Faith Otten, Mary Serafino, and Brad Baumgarten – Coalition for Life St. Louis
Jill Stanek – SBA List

I can’t wait to see what else the students accomplish this semester and school year!  Stay tuned for more updates in the Midwest!

Dear Emmett

It’s 1 a.m. and I can’t sleep – too many thoughts are spiraling through my head after today at the Capitol for one of the Senate Interim Committee’s hearings on Planned Parenthood.  There were way too many unanswered questions that should’ve been answered with clear policies, procedures, and documents.  My frustrations are keeping me awake.  I can’t promise a perfectly edited post at this hour, but I’ll give it my best.

I started this post to call out the people who are sitting on the sidelines during this whole scandal while others fight for life and the dignity of every human person.  I am so frustrated at the number of people who haven’t watched the videos but try to defend them.  I’m so frustrated at the number of pro-lifers who aren’t acting on the opportunity to expose the abortion Goliath in our country.

I wrote a whole page and I just stared at it…tears starting rolling down my face as I realized the people I left out.  I left out the victims; the innocent little babies who have been torn apart with no dignity in front of millions of viewers to see.  Sometimes you get so wrapped up in the frustrations that you need a moment to remember what you are fighting for.  I think it’s time for an apology.

Dear Emmett,

I am so sorry.  The country that prides itself on protecting every single one of its citizens has failed you.   Our health system failed you.  Some of our elected officials failed you.  We should’ve been there for you.

People joked around as they picked through your tiny defenseless body.  You were exploited in the most extreme form.

You must’ve been so comfortable in your mother’s womb, I wonder if you knew it was coming.  I hope it was quick and the pain didn’t last long.  The first and last sensation from a human you experienced was pain, when it should’ve been comfort and a loving embrace.  I wonder if your mother has seen the video…having no idea that you are her son.

I’m so sorry that people who think they are more valuable than you, are using your precious little parts for experimentation.  The parts you never got to use to their full potential.  While scientists pick through your little heart, thousands of Americans’ hearts break for yours.  Every single part of you was yours, and you were robbed.

Your barbaric death is something that is going to stick with me forever.  It has made me want to fight even harder than ever.  Through the eyes of Dr. Ginde you meant nothing but “products of conception,” to me you meant motivation and passion to keep fighting.

Forgive the others who are too timid to stand up for you.  The ones that fear a loss in popularity or maybe a loss in friendship.  Forgive those that will use the financial gain they received through your remains to buy a new car or a nice dinner- experiences that you will never get to enjoy.

Your name means powerful.  I couldn’t think of a better way to describe you.  Your beautiful soul is so much larger than the small fragile parts shown in the video.  You have inspired many people to take a stand for the greatest gift of all, life.  It’s ironic how Planned Parenthood and Stem Express felt like you were worthless, nothing but a blob of tissue – so then used you (because your parts weren’t valuable for yourself but were for others).  They had no idea how valuable you truly are.  You are worth more than a Lamborghini.  You will be remembered by many as one of the most powerful instigators of truth.  You proved exactly what happens when there is no respect for human life.

I am so sorry your life was ended much too early, but know your life served a purpose.  A purpose that many of us will never live up to.  Millions of people have seen you and it stirred something within them.

I know you have a pretty good view on Jesus’ lap to see what we’re are up to down here.  It may look pretty chaotic but trust me.  We aren’t going anywhere until every single baby just like you are protected.

1 of the 897

The first stop in the Midwest for the Planned Parenthood Project, a display that exposes Planned Parenthood’s latest annual report from the 2013-2014 fiscal year, was at Lindenwood University, located in St. Charles, Missouri. Something happened there that brought me to tears and reminded me why I do what I do.IMG_5441

Seeing the display for the first time, students are usually shocked to learn Planned Parenthood commits 897 abortions every day and that taxpayers are funding this organization that thrives on aborting innocent babies.

At the Lindenwood campus, most students that walked by had no idea that Planned Parenthood did so many abortions – or abortions at all for that matter.  The majority of students thought we were actually with Planned Parenthood.  In fact one of the librarians came out to me and said, “Wow!  I really support what you are doing here today.  If you need copies or anything printed just let me know and I’ll take care of you.”  When I said, “Oh well thanks so much!  Did you get a chance to read all of the displays?” he took a closer look and turned away and marched right back inside.

A couple people said we were liars and full of s**t.  Other than that it was a very mellow educational day until just about the time we were ready to pack up.

There was a group of three young women who walked by and got upset, one in particular.  They decided to go sit across from us and start yelling our statistics back at us and making fun of us.  We just ignored them.  When a banner would fall over from a gust a wind the young woman would yell, “That’s what you get for being anti-abortion!”  I started putting our tear drop display away as the wind kept knocking it over and as I was zipping up the cover for it, one girl yelled, “Hey I wanna talk to you anti-abortion person!”  Lisa, the president of Lindenwood Students for Life, asked her if she had a question but the girl said she wanted to talk to me.  Preparing myself to get yelled at, I took a deep breath and calmly walked over to her with a big smile on my face.

Read the rest of this post at LifeSiteNews and what shocked me when I started talking to this young woman.
